Energy Efficient Double Glazed WindowsWe currently see pressure from several sources to reduce the energy emitted from our homes, through our windows, doors and conservatories. There is pressure to reduce emissions for environmental reasons and there is economic pressure, where ever rising fuel costs make it imperative that we minimise heat loss through our glazing. Here is an overview of the Window Energy Ratings system and some of the products
that can assist with reducing heat loss through your double glazing. Window Energy RatingsEnergy efficiency is a key element of government policy regarding the problems of global warming and conservation. The British Fenestration Rating Council (BRFC) and the Energy Saving Trust (EST) have developed a government backed scheme whereby windows are rated according to their energy efficiency (insulation and heat saving). Windows are rated for their energy using the familiar A – G scale applied th white goods such as fridges. Thus an A rated window is considerably more efficient than a G rated window. All window units which can demonstrate a BFRC energy rating of C or better can carry the Energy Saving Recommended swing tag. The BFRC rating assesses the energy performance of the whole window. Included in the rating are frame design, frame material, type of glass and allother components that make up the window. Window producers are keen to achieve high energy ratings to add to the quality of their product range An explanation of the benefits and how the rating system works can be found here:-
