PVC-u Windows, Doors & Conservatories
PVC-u Insulating Properties
PVC-u has natural insulating properties. PVC-u window, door and conservatory frames
provide excellent protection from the elements plus thermal insulation that will keep
the property warm, dry and draught free. Multifunctional weather seals are also available,
giving cutting edge technology to window, door and conservatory manufacture.
PVC-u Acoustic Properties
The outstanding acoustic insulation of PVC-u windows and doors will shield the property
from the noise of the outside world.
Typical products produced in PVC-u include:-
- Windows – vertical slider, sash, tilt & turn.
- Residential Doors.
- Patio Doors.
- French Doors.
PVC-u Window & Door Design
State of the art PVC-u window and door design embraces modern styles and quality
engineering standards. The beautifully sculptured shapes can add a stylish elegance
to both windows and doors, inside and out.
PVC-u Windows & Doors - Colours
White PVC-u door and window frames are the most economic to produce, but white may
not necessarily be the colour that best compliments your home. For some properties
black is a popular choice. Recent developments in PVC-u frame technology now enable
you to select from a wide range of colours, including a variety of wood effect finishes.
GRP Composite Doors
With contemporary manufacturing techniques, a composite door has the same aesthetic
features and appeal as a wooden door – but with many practical benefits. It
is essentially a maintenance free alternative to the traditional wooden door.
- No painting required.
- No twisting, or warping.
- Excellent insulation properties.
Glazing - Energy Efficiency Rated Windows
Energy efficiency is a cornerstone of government policy in tackling global warming
and enhancing conservation. The British Fenestration Rating Council (BRFC) and the
Energy Saving Trust (EST) have developed a government backed scheme allowing windows
to be rated according to their energy efficiency (insulation and heat saving).
All windows are now rated according to their energy efficiency.
Conservatories – Planning Approval
Most properties that have not already been modified have Permitted Development Rights.
Depending on the type of property, an extension of 10 – 20% of the external
dimensions of the property (including roof space and close outbuildings) can be build
without formal planning approval. You should check the details with your local authority.
Conservatories – Building Regulations
Normally, a domestic conservatory will be exempt from control by Building Regulations.
Below are some of the requirements for conservatory exemption from Building Regulations.
- The conservatory must be a ground level construction.
- A physical barrier must separate the conservatory from the property.
- The floor area of the conservatory must not exceed 30 sqm.
- The conservatory walls must be at least 75% wall glazing, thus the conservatory
will have a maximum wall area of 25% brick.
- The conservatory glazing must be of a specification to comply with Building Regulations.
- The roof of the conservatory must be transparent or translucent.
Conservatories – Select Your Supplier Carefully
Whilst you may not need building control approval, you should choose your conservatory,
and your conservatory supplier with care. A well designed conservatory is a very enjoyable
addition to your home. A poorly designed conservatory can be uncomfortably hot in
summer and very cold in winter.
